The Merelani gem mines or gem mining are is an area 2km wide and 50km long Its located in the Merelani hills on the Lelatema mountains in Manyara Region Tanzania about 70 km southwest of the town Arusha where Tanzanite was first introduced to the public eye in 1967. The area is sub divided into 4 blocks (A, B, C, D&D extended).
